Who builds dropped kerbs in Birmingham?
Work can only be carried out by Birmingham City Council's authorised contractors and approved suppliers. You pay the council in full before construction. You can't use your own contractor for the crossing.

How to apply in Birmingham
- Check you have room for a driveway at least 4.75 m long, and whether you need planning permission.
- Build the driveway first: it must be in place before the dropped kerb is constructed.
- Apply online and pay the application fee.
- Birmingham inspects and sends a quote, normally within 28 working days.
- Accept and pay in full within 2 months; installation follows.
How long it takes
- Quote within 28 working days of the inspection (longer if trees, utilities or street furniture are involved).
- Quote valid 2 months.
- Standard installation: at least 16 weeks after full payment; non-standard work over 20 weeks.
Size and siting rules
- Frontage at least 4.75 m deep.
- Standard crossing: 2.75 m at the boundary and 4.5 m at the kerb.
- Maximum length of dropped kerbs: 8.5 m.
- Driveway slope less than 1 in 10.
